I'm Hannah Heffner
I help depressed and withdrawn teens learn to creatively express themselves so that they can shift out of sadness and fully find their voice (and themselves) in the process.
I do my best work with teens who are "quirky", creative and enjoy using humor as a part of the therapy process.
As an art therapist, my work in an adolescent psychiatric inpatient facility has prepared me to work well with teens who experience anxiety, depression and self-harm behaviors and I take a Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) and Mindfulness informed approach to support my clients in blending the creative and practical so that your teen enjoys the process of exploration and you see the results of their work at home in their mood and behavior too!
I have a passion for working with teens who are exploring their identity and hold a safe and supportive space for LGBT-affirming counseling.
Previously I have done research-based work as it relates to recovery from disordered eating and enjoy helping teens find self-compassion and self-acceptance through the arts.
I like to focus on clients' strengths and enjoy using metaphors that often show up in artwork and conversation to help guide my clients and improve their well being. One activity that my teens love is making coping skills survival kits to help them focus on personalized coping skills and self-care that they can bring with them into everyday life.
When I'm not working with clients...
I enjoy bike riding, running, and yoga. I love to experiment in the kitchen and I’m obsessed with nachos. I like to travel, read non-fiction and graphic novels, listen to podcasts and live music, and go dancing. In my spare time, I love to watch to watch movies with my sassy cat named Mona.
